Tamworth Regional Council is proposing new gate fees for the disposal of clean concrete at the Forest Road Waste Management Facility.

In the 2025/26 financial year, Council removed the charge for clean concrete waste disposal to promote source-separated material recovery.

However, this has resulted in:

  • A dramatic increase in concrete waste received.
  • A substantial proportion of concrete suspected to be originating from outside the Local Government Area (LGA).
  • Increased processing costs and an oversupply of crushed concrete stockpiles.

To address this, Council proposes the introduction of new disposal charges as follows:

  • Concrete from within the Tamworth Regional Council area: $25 per tonne.
  • Concrete from outside the Tamworth Regional Council area: $100 per tonne.

These charges aim to:

  • Offset processing costs (currently ~$30 per tonne).
  • Discourage the importation of concrete waste from outside the LGA.
  • Maintain fairness and sustainability in waste recovery.

The Proposed Concrete Disposal Charges will be on public exhibition for community feedback for a 28-day period, commencing from Friday 26 September 2025 and ending on Friday, 24 October 2025.
