Kootingal’s Gate Street will undergo an upgrade as part of the first round of funding allocated to our region by the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Infrastructure Program.

This exciting project will improve Gate Street infrastructure for the enjoyment of Kootingal residents, and is expected to support the local economy through boosting tourism outcomes for the community.

Planned upgrades

Thank you to everyone who provided suggestions and feedback on the draft plan.

Below is the final plan and improvements to Gate Street are expected to include footpath upgrades, seating, removal of shrubs at pedestrian crossing and lighting.

Construction is planned to begin in early June and will be completed in stages over the course of the month. Work is expected to take about four weeks to complete. During this period, Gate Street may be reduced to one lane of traffic when necessary. In the event of changed road conditions, traffic control staff will direct the flow of traffic. Working hours will be between 7am and 5pm on weekdays.

Costs and funding

The upgrade of Gate Street will be funded in full as part of the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Infrastructure Program, which has been developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. From this funding, $100,000 has been allocated to the Gate Street upgrade.

Do you have any suggestions about the planned improvements?
