Manilla Low Level Bridge project update

1 July 2019

We are still investigating variations of the 4 proposed routes with a view to eliminating the 90 degree bends from the northern bridge approach. Council has not yet determined the preferred route as we are still working through several important design considerations as well as private land matters. Design considerations include the survey and flood modelling for several of the options to ensure we have the necessary information to make an informed decision about the preferred route.

I can confirm that the northern approach option via North Street is no longer being considered due to cost, construction risk and the complexity of private land matters.

The Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) have confirmed that they will partner with Council to help deliver this project and will likely agree to amend the existing Main Road 63 route to include the new by-pass, when the project is complete.

Council apologises that the process of determining a preferred route is taking longer than expected, but we want to ensure the best long term solution.

We will be engaging with the Manilla community, including land owners along the preferred route, once the preferred route is established. We want to be able to answer as many of your questions as possible when we do make contact. It is also confirmed that once the preferred route is known we will be assessing existing and predicted noise levels along the route to gauge the impact on properties. This process can take some time to complete, which is why we will be determining the preferred route first.
