Namoi River Crossing Project April 2021 update

19 April 2021

Work is progressing well, with the girders (concrete beams) for the new bridge installed this month. The crossing consists of 6 segments, each comprised of 4 girders. Each girder weighs a massive 38 tonnes, and have been carefully lifted into place by a crane.

Construction of the bridge is currently on schedule, despite the recent flooding of the Namoi River in March causing some short term delays while clean up of the site was performed. The bridge is expected to be completed in July / August 2021, weather permitting.

To enable access to the Namoi River Crossing, works were recently undertaken to realign Fossickers Way (MR63) under the authority of the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS). A detour via Charles Street and Rowan Street in Manilla is currently in place to allow for the upgrade of the Barraba Street and Manilla Road intersection, which will remain until the opening of the Namoi River Crossing. Roadworks began in November 2020 and are expected to be complete by late May 2021.
