Picnic Spot

A picnic spot will soon be built to complement the new long vehicle parking area at the site of the old skate park on Peel Street, representing an investment of $80,000.

The new space will feature four picnic tables, shaded seating areas and a connecting concrete path to ensure the space is accessible to all.

The site already attracts a large number of visitors in caravans, trucks and buses using the adjacent long vehicle parking bay as a safe place to pull over in close proximity to Tamworth’s CBD. The area is also in a prime location along one of Tamworth’s most popular walking tracks, so will provide an area for local walkers and cyclists wanting a place to sit and take a break.

New pathway will connect the picnic tables with existing shared pathways nearby, providing a link between the new public space and our current active transport network.

Peel Street Path & Crossing

This project will complement the new picnic spot, connecting the area with existing nearby cycleways.

A new shared path will be constructed along the levee side of Peel Street from the Darling Street path to Viaduct Park, with a pedestrian refuge island north of Macquarie Street on Peel Street to help residents cross the road safely.

Blisters will also be installed at the intersection of Macquarie Street with Peel Street to improve safety when crossing at this location.
