Retreat Road is a local unsealed road between Bendemeer and Kingstown, which currently generates a lot of dust and is inaccessible to larger trucks such as B-doubles.

To improve travel efficiency for the route and to make the road accessible for more vehicles, the existing 7 kilometre stretch of Retreat Road will be sealed for its entirety. Retreat Bridge will also be replaced to open up the road network.

The upgrade of Retreat Road has been made possible by the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads Program in association with Tamworth Regional Council, contributing $3,600,000 and $105,000 respectively to the project. The replacement of Retreat Bridge will be undertaken separately using additional funding from the Australian Government’s Bridge Renewal Program.
