The aim of the policy is to make sure community members, especially young families, can enjoy key pedestrian traffic areas across the Tamworth region without being exposed to first or second-hand cigarette smoke.

The policy was formally adopted in late 2015 to cover Tamworth, Manilla and Barraba. It was developed after extensive community consultation which showed strong support for a smoke-free policy, and complements the NSW Smoke-Free Environment Act.

We are now looking at including the portion of Peel Street between Bourke Street and Darling Street in an amended policy and would like to hear the community's thoughts on the policy.

Should the policy be adopted by Council following a period of public exhibition, a community education campaign will start across social media, radio and print advertising to let the community know about these changes.
