CCTV at Bulk Water Refill Stations

8 October 2019

Recently Council has received a number of reports in relation to individuals unlawfully accessing water from bulk water refill stations located in centres currently under Level 5 water restrictions. There has also been a rise in the number of reports regarding people using water accessed at refill stations located in these centres for uses that are in breach of the Level 5 water restrictions currently in place.

Council has attempted to stop both of these actions by a) placing a metal cage over the pipe infrastructure and b) requesting water caters issue their clients with receipts stating where the delivered water was sourced from. Unfortunately these solutions have not been able to stop these actions indefinitely so an alternative solution, in the form of CCTV surveillance, was recommended to Council.

Council has agreed to the temporary installation of CCTV surveillance at these refill stations at a cost of $4,000. These refill stations are located at:

  • AELEC
  • Lockheed Street
  • Kootingal
  • Oxley Anchor

The footage gathered at these sites will be used as evidence to prosecute where necessary.
