Scully and Kootingal Pools to open under level 5 water restrictions

27 August 2019

With the current predicted inflows and water consumption in Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal it is expected that the Tamworth Town Water Supply will move to level 5 water restrictions in the near future. As per Council’s Drought Management Plan, under level 5 water restrictions no Council pools in the Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal areas would be allowed to open.

Tonight a report was put to Council recommending the Drought Management Plan be amended to allow Tamworth South and West War Memorial Pool to open during level 5 water restrictions, should they be introduced. Council approved this with an amendment to include Kootingal Pool. This amendment will see both Tamworth South and West War Memorial Pool and Kootingal Pool open during the 2019/2020 swim season should level 5 water restrictions be in place in Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal.

The water used to fill and maintain the pools will be sourced from a non-potable water supply such as bore water. Council also agreed to review this amendment when Chaffey Dam reached 15% capacity.
