Some changes are being proposed to disposal fees paid at waste management facilities across the Tamworth region as part of our budget preparations for the upcoming new financial year.

The fees charged at the gate of waste management facilities are designed to cover the costs of providing an environmentally sound disposal service and as the costs of these service increase, we must adjust our fees.

Some of the proposed changes are recommended to encourage positive behaviour change. For example, customers will be charged a much lower fee if they take pre-sorted waste to their local waste management facility because this allows for greater resource recovery resulting in less waste going into landfill.

There are also some proposed changes to the way in which waste is categorised for disposal fees and some new fee categories are recommended.

A report containing these proposed changes will be received by Council at the Ordinary Council Meeting on Tuesday 12 April. Should Council endorse the recommendation the proposed changes will then go on public exhibition for 28 days. Following the 28 day public exhibition period a final report including community feedback and the final proposed changes will be presented to Council. If Council endorses the final proposed changes the new fees will come into affect from 1 July 2022.

These fees are charges to residents disposing of waste for domestic purposes.

Only fees that are increasing or decreasing by $5 or more or a new fee have been included here. A full list of fees can be found here.
