Prepare our park for the future

As part of future planning for the continued growth of the city, we have proposed an update to the masterplan for Tamworth's Bicentennial Park. The community is asked to provide comment on the proposal.

The regionally significant park has evolved in recent years with the construction of the Tamworth Regional Playground and works associated with the renewal of amenities, and it is now timely for us to drive the development of this park to meet the growing needs of the city now and for the next 20 years.

Running adjacent to the Tamworth CBD, the park has provided the community with a place to recreate for decades and has been a central site for community based events.

Bicentennial Park is where people come to exercise, relax and connect with friends and family.

We are looking for a collective vision that will activate and encourage social, cultural, recreational and environmental benefits to the community and visitors to the region for a parkland experience that is unique to Tamworth.

The masterplan proposes the current Olympic Pool site be developed into an 'Events Precinct'. This would include;

  • a contemporary facade
  • a cafe with outdoor dining
  • formal gardens
  • amenities
  • site for a temporary stage and supporting infrastructure

If supported by the community, this concept will not be developed until the proposed aquatics facility is operational.

The budget for this project is to deliver a revised masterplan. A budget is not currently allocated to execute the masterplan. Once the plan is adopted, we will consider budgeting for the works in future budgets.

Post adoption, the masterplan recommends a prioritisation of works in categories of timeframes deducted as short, medium and long-term actions.
