The Kootingal community is set to celebrate the opening of the Kootingal Multipurpose Centre on Tuesday 26 November 2024, following an 8-month project to refurbish the local hall and build a new library.

The Kootingal Multipurpose Centre features an open-plan, flexible layout designed to serve a variety of community needs. Key improvements include the new library with a conference room, accessible ramps and after-hours book return plus the refurbished hall with new flooring and amenities.

In 2021, Council embarked on an exciting journey in collaboration with the local community to reimagine the iconic Kootingal Hall and Library. Through community consultation, Council listened closely to feedback from residents about the layout of the centre and the need for customer service staff to be available, which were instrumental in shaping the final design.

“We are incredibly proud to see the project come to fruition, this new multipurpose centre will be a place for learning, community events and connection for generations to come,” said Tamworth Region Mayor Russell Webb.

“We’re excited to add both the Balancing the Books sculpture and a sustainable garden to the Multipurpose Centre. These features reflect our commitment to not only enhancing the physical infrastructure but also creating a space that fosters creativity, sustainability and community pride,” he said.

The transformation of the facility was made possible through the support of several funding partners. The Australian Government contributed $1,200,000 through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, the State Library of NSW provided $335,000 and Tamworth Regional Council contributed $627,459.

As part of the new community-focused design, Tamworth Regional Council Customer Service will be available during opening hours, providing residents with convenient access to Council services staff in a central location.

The Kootingal Multipurpose Centre will be open to the public from Tuesday 26 November 2024. Library opening hours will be Tuesday 10am-2pm, Wednesday 2pm-5pm, Thursday and Friday 2pm-5pm and Saturday 10am-12pm.
