Construction begins on stormwater drainage at Tamworth Global Gateway Park

19 February 2021

Tamworth Global Gateway Park

  • Tamworth Regional Council is currently facilitating the construction of a multi-stage business, industrial and enterprise precinct at Westdale, which will include the development of an intermodal freight facility.
  • A 246 hectare parcel of land, the Tamworth Global Gateway Park (TGGP) is the size of Sydney’s CBD and forms the centrepiece of Tamworth’s Blueprint 100 Strategy.
  • The site is bounded by Goddard Lane to the west, Goonan Street to the north, Marathon Street to the east and the Oxley Highway to the south.
  • The first stage of development includes the upgrade of Goddard Lane and the construction of the trunk stormwater drainage infrastructure for the precinct.

Trunk Stormwater Drainage Infrastructure

  • Construction began on the trunk stormwater drainage infrastructure at the TGGP on the 8th February 2021. Construction of the drainage infrastructure is expected to be completed by October 2021, weather permitting.
  • The trunk stormwater drainage infrastructure will be designed and constructed to convey stormwater from the western, central and eastern catchments of the Park. Stormwater will travel from the TGGP north to the Peel River, through the Westdale Waste Water Treatment Plant and under both the Barraba rail spur line and Wallamore Road
  • The trunk stormwater drainage infrastructure is essential to enable the development of the TGGP, a multi-dollar infrastructure project which will drive significant economic growth and job creation in our region
  • The stormwater drainage is expected to include several hundred metres of open channels pipe drainage and precast box culverts, as well as multiple surface inlet and junction pits

Goddard Lane Roadworks

  • The Goddard Lane roadworks commenced in November 2020
  • Roadworks are expected to conclude by September 2021.
  • Work is being undertaken to widen Goddard Lane, which marks the north western perimeter of the precinct and will provide direct access to heavy industrial lots along that side of the precinct once completed

Development of the trunk stormwater drainage infrastructure for the Park has been funded by the NSW Government under its Restart NSW Growing Local Economies Fund in association with the Tamworth Regional Council, contributing $10,303,200 and $1,144,800 to the project respectively. The Goddard Lane roadworks, an investment of $6,829,473, have been funded in full by Tamworth Regional Council.
