Public to have their say on Development Control Plans

3 September 2021

Tamworth Regional Council is calling on the public to have their say on the Tamworth Global Gateway Park site-specific Development Control Plan (DCP) and proposed amendments to Tamworth Regional Development Control Plan 2010.

The Tamworth Global Gateway Park site-specific DCP is designed to provide clear and concise development guidelines for the Park that ensure positive planning outcomes and maximise the benefits for the whole community. The proposed controls were originally placed on public exhibition in late 2018 but a number of changes have occurred since leading to a re-exhibition. Council’s Manager of Development, Sam Lobsey, said “we received 14 submission during the initial public exhibition period and those have been taken into consideration with this revised plan”.

The site-specific DCP for the Park is the first set of controls to be rolled out following Council’s adoption of Blueprint 100. The DCP has been influenced by Council’s strategic plan and encapsulates many of its themes and objectives. “We have included controls that encourage developments to ‘design with nature’ by producing high environmental designs that present a positive green image for our region”, said Mr Lobsey, “there are also a number of controls that encourage water conservation including rainwater storage, and on-site retention and reuse”.

The Tamworth Regional DCP 2010 is reviewed regularly to ensure that the content remains consistent with the objectives defined by Council in response to consultation with the community.

This review is proposing the introduction of a Desire Future Character Statement to site-specific areas, addition of development types to the fast track application pathway, and amendments to reflect the transition to the NSW Planning Portal. Mr Lobsey said, “expanding our fast-track development provisions for all commercial and industrial developments across the region will allow more developers to obtain fast-track approval if they meet the requirements of the applicable DCP”.

Both Development Control Plans are on public exhibition until 4pm on Thursday 30 September.
