21 July 2020

Tamworth Regional Council Manager Sport and Recreation Paul Kelly has advised the timeframe for the delivery of the Treloar Park Tennis Redevelopment has been revised as a result of the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was originally expected work would start on site this month but this is now expected to be delayed until 2021.

“All project partners remain committed to the redevelopment,” he said. “The project continues to have the support of the Federal Government with $1.4 million through the Building Better Regions Fund plus $225,000 from Council, $200,000 from Tennis NSW and $975,000 from West Tamworth League Club.”

West Tamworth League Club CEO Rod Laing said like many businesses in the hospitality sector, Wests sustained significant financial impacts after being closed for several months due to the mandatory health measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“The club has now reopened but it is not expected to return to its usual trading levels until COVID-19 restrictions ease further,“ he said . “The club has requested the postponement of the project to allow its financial position to recover.”
