Last year Council went out to tender for the Kerbside Collection contract and Recyclable Processing contract.

Cleanaway were the successful tenderers for the Kerbside Collection contract. This means they will continue kerbside collections across our LGA for at least the next seven years.

Negotiations regarding the Recycling Processing contract are ongoing. These negotiations are commercial in confidence and Council will provide an update as soon as possible.

Changes

Under the new waste contract there will be some changes to the services residents receive. These changes will occur in two phases.

PHASE ONE

Start Date – 1 July 2021

Under the new waste contract there will be no Bulky Household Waste Collection. This means the last Bulky Household Waste Collection will commence on 14 June 2021.

Bulky Household Waste Collection will be replaced by quarterly waste vouchers.

To find out more information about Bulky Household Waste Collection click here.

As of 1 July 2021 ALL properties across the Tamworth LGA will receive four waste vouchers a year.

The waste vouchers will be delivered to each property quarterly (one voucher a quarter).

This will allow for tenant turnover and the selling/buying of properties.

Each voucher will allow the holder to dispose of 2m3 of waste for free at any of our nine waste management facilities.

PHASE TWO

This phase will be implemented when the Organics Recycling Facility is operational. A date for this is yet to be confirmed.

Green bins will be collected weekly from 1 July 2022. Category 2 residents (residents in Barraba, Manilla, and Nundle who currently receive a red and yellow bin collection) will receive red, yellow and green bins from this date too. This will see Category 2 and 3 become one category and be charged the same fee (Category 3 fee).

Green bins will be able to take all organic material – lawn clippings, small branches/sticks, and food.

This is pending the commissioning of the proposed Organics Recycling Facility.

Category 3 residents (red, yellow and green lid bin collections) will have their red bin collected fortnightly. This is due to the amount of waste in red bins being reduce with all food waste being able to go into the green bin.

Category 1 residents (red and yellow lid bin collections) will continue to have their red bin collected weekly.

Under the new contract there are options for rate payers to change the size of their red and yellow lid bin sizes.

Category 1 rate payers will have the option to increase their yellow bin size to 360L for an additional charge.

Category 2 rate payers will have the option to:

  • Reduce their red bin to 140L
  • Increase their yellow bin to 360L
